work order for the project - examples of my style and abilities are visible throughout this site and my portfolio.
Many hours are lost sending "ideas" when a potential client decides to scrap a project or chooses another artist.

You must specify the exact dimensions of the graphic needed for placement on your cover,
as well as the format i would save it and send. once you have reviewed and made any changes
to the design, you will be sent your final copy. any editing after that will require an hourly fee.
Your staff and printer is responsible for how your magazine or book cover graphic is set up.

This information is for authors who wish to have a book cover designed for their hard copy published books - created on a high resolution image (template) and ready to send to your publisher for creating the actual paper cover.

We no longer design graphics for e-books or e-bookovers, due to the high rate of theft or printing out of our imagery and design in electronic formats. We only create cover designs for hard copy books.

The finished design is for the graphics for your book cover in sizes appropriate for your publication.

Approximate prices given are for the one-time design of a cover. As always, these images may not be used to create other commercially printed items - business stationery of any type, business cards, etc. That use requires separate graphics design. The cover design is ©mary hyland and must be acknowledged on the inside cover flap and lower back cover of your book, or magazine. You are granted permission to use the imagery for your book covers, but the copyright and ownership of the images and design is not transferrable from Mary Hyland or eyecandee.com.

The following are the standards I use for designing the graphics onto a template in front/back book cover size for commercial or personal printing.
Please forward this information to your commercial printer or whoever is creating your actual book cover, to be sure that we're in sync with the size you need, because once a graphic is created onto a template per your original size specification, subsequent changes or new graphics carry another fee. The images i create will be between 300 and 600 dpi for excellent print capabilities. All images will be created in .jpg,.tif, .bmp, or .png format (you would specify what your printer prefers prior to beginning the project) and transmitted to the client by email. I work only in PaintShop Pro for the creation of my graphics, and the graphics saved in formats outlined above.

Important:Please send me or have your printer give you exact specifications so that you can refer to these charts and ascertain whether we can serve you. If you haven't a commercial printer as yet, and you'd like me to design a cover, please find one that accepts the following standards used in my graphics design, or be sure to provide me with a template to use in the design in the exact measurement being used to print your cover, or the exact size in pixels only, not inches. These are book cover sizes to choose from unless you provide a custom sized template from your printer:

We do not design the book spine.
The spine width is determined by the number of pages in your book, we cannot calculate the image size needed. The cover design is for the graphics used for the design of the front or front and/or back cover of your book only. We do not design and format the jacket, we leave that up to whoever is printing your covers. We can design other graphics for the insides of your cover or for your book illustrations on a separate project basis, per graphic, which would be placed and printed in the appropriate sizes and areas by your commercial printing company, in the formats specified above.

We follow industry standards for estimated cost of book cover design. More complex designs or changes will result in higher fees, i do not charge by the hour, the work is done per project/template graphic based on several factors and complexity of design.

Front cover graphics design on printable template - graphic design or theme that you specify, using *one high resolution image - $300-500, price based on your design requirements. Combinations of imagery (scenes) will probably result in higher fees. Large books (8 1/2" x 11" and above) will also most probably be more expensive.
*additional images are per image fee, dependent upon the graphics and number of separate graphics desired. You must supply your own font if you need a specific typeface for your title. The template i send is created as an entire graphic - not part of a desktop publishing type of file - this is an image that will actually be printed as a cover. Fonts are part of the graphic's design, and is not sent separately to a publisher. We can provide you with the book cover design without the title and font style, and your publisher/printer can add the title to the cover pre-press.

These rates are typical for most sizes of hard copy books. Exact fees will not be ascertained until we know exactly what type of design and the complexity. You must provide special fonts if you do not wish us to choose one of our own for your book title.

Our price is based on a design including images from our image library and royalty free stock photos if needed or requested, or imagery you provide specifically to be used for the design of your cover. If you are sending images, you must send it in the appropriate size for placement on the template so that it prints out well by your commercial printing company or publisher. Please be specific as to the artwork you need. You are requesting a design using our graphics ability in a theme you specify, or with images you provide. Only the final product will be sent by email. We've lost a lot of our original artwork by emailing samples that were never used, but ended up electronically reproduced elsewhere.

Payment in full is required prior to beginning your order. Payments are processed online though PayPal only, and you may use any credit card or an electronic check. Your graphics will then be sent to you by email, and you can put them on a disk or email them to your publisher/commercial printer.

All artwork must be credited on the inside front cover or on the back cover of your printed book, along with my copyright info, and we must receive one copy of the actual hard copy printed book cover for our own copyright files before your book goes to press. permission for use of art applies to the current contracted project only, and run sizes if specified.
